What’s the difference between a Sports Massage Therapist and a Chiropractor?  Find out the differences and find out which one could help you the most.

What is the difference between sports massage and seeing a chiropractor?

When you are in pain, whether it is due to an injury or a heavy work-out, you are going to want to do everything that you can to get back on the right track. Of course, it is easiest to simply take some painkillers and try to ignore the pain, but this isn’t going to help you in the long-term.  It is a much better idea to seek out alternatives that you can use to treat and ease whatever problem it is that you have.

Both chiropractic treatments and Sports massage therapy are popular approaches and treatments for pain and they are both used as a way to treat a number of conditions. But why do they work, what are their main differences and which one might be more effective for you?

Chiropractic Techniques

The main focus of chiropractic techniques is to focus on the spine, the neck and other musculoskeletal systems, all with a hands-on approach. The idea behind chiropractic treatments is that the chiropractor will be able to re-align these skeletal systems and the body will then be able to heal itself. It can also help the person to feel that their joints move easier, reducing the pain that they feel when they move certain areas of their body, as well as increase their range of motion too.

Sports Massage Therapy

Another option if you are finding that you are in pain and want to seek relief is sports massage. Just like chiropractic techniques, sports massage is hands-on. However, rather than focusing on the musculo-skeletal systems within the body, massage will tackle the muscles themselves. The idea of sports massage or Deep Tissue Massage is to breakdown adhesions in the muscle fibres and to release tension in the muscle returning them back to normal length.   This will help to alleviate pain, improve range of movement, improve flexibility and improve postural issues being caused by tight muscles.

Sports massage has been effectively used to treat a range of different issues, including soft tissue muscles, stress, headaches and anxiety.

Which is best?

The great thing about both massage therapy and chiropractic techniques is that they not only help you to feel less pain. But they also help you to move more freely and easily. Of course, sports massage therapy is not only going to help ensure that your muscles feel better, but will also give you the chance to spend some time on your mental well-being too.
